Winter Term 2021 online classes
Chess Offerings from Southside Chess:
Chess kids from beginner to expert can find clubs and classes to help them become better players. The 'club' options are low-cost classes designed to help students learn and build on a good foundation of chess skills. The 'class' options are accelerated courses for serious players who want to improve their competitive skills. Students who want to do multiple classes each week can do so with an overall 20% discount from the listed tuition rates. Students of parents who are currently underemployed because of Coronavirus may be eligible for special rates.
In addition to the clubs and classes, all Southside Chess players will use Lichess.org to play Ladder chess games against each other, which will be conducted weekly. Lichess.org is a free chess playing site. Players may move up or down the chess ladder, depending on performance. We will analyze many of the games, as well as teaching the students to analyze their own games using chess programs. We also plan to form school teams to play each other later in the year.
Beginners Chess Club: This is for children just starting their chess adventure and have limited experience or even none at all. We will teach the basics of opening play, strategy, tactics and endgames.
Intermediate Chess Club: This is for players with at least a year’s worth of experience. We will teach more complicated opening play, more advanced tactics and endgames, and a broader introduction to strategy.
Intermediate Chess Classes: These accelerated classes will be for experienced players who are serious about improving their skills and are interested in becoming competitive players.
Advanced Chess Classes: The advanced level classes are for very experienced players, especially those who have played a great number of tournament games and risen to high levels in those tournaments. We will explore more advanced openings, tactics, combinations, endgames and strategy.
WE EXPECT MOST CHILDREN TO SIGN UP FOR ONE CLUB OR CLASS PER WEEK, BUT PARTICULARLY MOTIVATED PLAYERS SHOULD CONSIDER MULTIPLE CLASSES AT A 20% OVERALL DISCOUNT.
PLAYERS MAY ENROLL AT ANY TIME (MID TERM) WITH A PRO-RATED TUITION FEE.
