Online Classes and Game Nights from Southside Chess:
FOR ONE TUITION FEE, YOUR CHILD CAN ENJOY 2 DAYS A WEEK OF CHESS! (1 Class and 1 Game Night).
FOR PLAYERS WHO ARE ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN CHESS AND HAVE A SERIOUS DESIRE TO EXCEL, WE SUGGEST ONE DAY A WEEK IN ONE OF OUR SCHOOL CLUBS FOR THE SPECIAL IN-PERSON EXPERIENCE PLUS AN ONLINE CLASS FOR THE IN-DEPTH LEARNING, IN ADDITION TO THE ONLINE GAME NIGHT, WHICH IS INCLUDED, MAKING 3 PERIODS OF CHESS PER WEEK. WEEKEND TOURNAMENTS, BOTH ONLINE AND IN-PERSON ARE OFTEN AVAILABLE DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. (Students taking both a school club and an online class are eligible for a $25 discount on one of them).
In the WINTER TERM we will offer AFTER-SCHOOL CHESS CLUBS at EDISON, ROOSEVELT, CHINESE IMMERSION, KENNEDY, EDGEWOOD, AND CHARLEMAGNE! We also offer ONLINE CHESS opportunities appropriate for scholastic aged players of different skill levels, INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED. (Beginners should join and learn basics at the club level before taking Intermediate online classes. Of course, there are exceptions where new students may start with online Intermediate classes. I am also open to starting an online Beginners class if there is enough demand. Each club or class will last one hour. We also suggest that players participate in our 'Game Nights' Players can play other Southside Chess Kids and then have their games analyzed. I will also teach the kids how to analyze their own games. FOR ONE TUITION FEE, YOUR CHILD CAN ENJOY 2 DAYS A WEEK OF CHESS! In the clubs, players will be presented a lesson each time at beginner, intermediate or advanced level, depending upon the skill levels of the participants. For online students the material presented will be consistent in a given week for each class description, so if a student misses a class in a given week, it can be made up by attending another day and time that week with the same class description. School Club participants can also do an online make-up, should they have to miss a club session.
GAME NIGHTS: FOR ONE TUITION FEE, YOUR CHILD CAN ENJOY 2 DAYS A WEEK OF CHESS! Besides classes, Players will have the opportunity each week to play games against their fellow Southside Chess students We will maintain a "Chess Ladder" reflecting the results of these games which will be updated each week. All students are encouraged to play Game Nights. They are like extra classes in that we analyze many of the games just after they are played to point out how players can learn to improve play. Kids will also learn how to analyze their own games and those of others.
